The person you are in side can be your greatest attribute
as a leader. Your values and life experiences provide
empathy, perspective and motivation.
Specifically, the personal characteristics you’ll
utilize most in your role s a leader include: 1) your
ability to express professional values, 2) fostering
a range of interests, and 3) demonstrating professional
motivation.
In both the book, Powerful
Leadership Development: Bridging Theory and Practice
Using Peers and Technology, and during the pep*
workshops, seminars and training courses, you’ll
have many opportunities to display these characteristics.
One exercise involves a personal interview and rating
guide. You’ll learn to conduct structured interviews:
you and a partner will take turns asking questions that
delve into past work experiences, courses, successes
and failures, challenges you’ve overcome and leaders
you admire.
Pep*
is an enlightening tool of self-discovery, one that
will inform your overall plan for further personal development.
It will provide a summary of what you’ve learned
throughout the book and the pep*
workshop, seminar or course. With the pep*
program you then enter the data into a unique computer
program for analysis and assessment. During the
pep* workshop you receive
a computer-generated report. Together, you can then
reflect upon the discrepancies and articulate to each
other what personal characteristics you want to improve
as you further develop your leadership skills.
